This is a 7 lbs. (one gallon) mylar pouch of orange indicating silica gel. The silica gel desiccant is made of silicon dioxide and formed into hard beads 2-5 mm in diameter. The beads have a strong affinity for water and are commonly used for humidity control applications.
Orange silica gel is impregnated with phenolphthalein, a color changing moisture indicator. When dry the beads have a yellow-orange tint. When saturated the beads become green. Orange silica gel is often used in place of blue silica gel, which contains cobalt chloride.
