Air Dryer Constantly Purging? A Few Troubleshooting Tips.
Posted by Tyler on 09 30 2016
Regenerative desiccant compressed air dryers require purge air to strip moisture from the desiccant beds. These dryers use a series of valves to control the flow of compressed air through the dryer. A common failure in older dryers is leaking or purging air from a tower that should not be venting any air. The telltale sign of this problem is a drying tower that doesn’t hold full pressure. Here are some steps you should take if this is happening.
- Turn off power to the dryer. In many makes and models, both towers will pressurize.
- If air is leaking from either exhaust muffler, you probably have a bad purge valve.Repair or replace the purge valve(s).
- Also check the solenoid exhaust ports. While in power-off mode, no air should be bleeding from the control solenoids.
- If any air is exhausting from one or more solenoids, replace the leaky valve.
Also, remember to replace exhaust mufflers on a regular basis and all associated filters. These simple steps will help keep your regenerative desiccant dryer running for a long time.
